Has Samsung beat Apple to the punch this time. On Wednesday the smartphone giant unveiled a digital watch that can run apps and connect to other Samsung smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch was launched at the IFA consumer electronics fair in Berlin, ahead of a rumored smartwatch from Apple.
The release of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch from Samsung will be available to buy when it goes on sale in a few weeks on September 25. Reportedly the innovative smartwatch will cost $299.

As for the technical details, the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch features a 1.6-inch screen and weighs 2.6 ounces. The Samsung smartwatch includes a 1.9 megapixel camera embedded in the strap and a built-in speaker that allows users to conduct hands-free calls.
The Galaxy Gear works together with other Samsung smartphones to connect to the outside world, and is being sold as a companion device to its latest generation smartphone-tablet called the Galaxy Note 3.
