Sea World Opens New One Ocean Killer Whale Show in Orlando FL

On Friday, Earth Day, SeaWorld opened its new One Ocean Killer Whale show at the Shamu Stadium in the Sea World Park in Orlando Florida. According to local news reports, an estimated 4,000 were on hand and had a opportunity to see the new show.

The new show was accompanied by a new original musical score and new costumes. The major changes are perhaps an attempt to create some separation from its ‘Believe’ show which has run since 2006. It was during one of those shows last February in which killer whale Tillikum killed trainer Dawn Brancheau.

Another big change to the new show was the lack of trainers actually in the water with the whales. The trainers were of course interacting with the whales, but remained out of the water.During the show in which Brancheau was killed, Tillikum had pulled her under water by her pony tail.

When a reporter from local Orlando television news station WFTV asked if trainers will eventually get back in the water, curator of animal training Kelly Flaherty Clark said, “If and when we get back in the water, it will be after we invest all our safety protocols and facility modifications and equipment for our trainers.”
