Steve Jobs of Apple Dies at age 56

This image is all that users see at apple.com as the company and many around the world mourn the loss of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

At the age of 56, much too soon for all of us, Apple co-founder and technology innovation legend Steve Jobs has died today. Jobs had battled with cancer and just recently stepped down as CEO for the company he built. Tonight, Apple has confirmed that Jobs has passed away.

In memoriam of their founder and leader, the Apple web site (http://www.apple.com) shows nothing more than the image of Steve Jobs and the dates spanning his all too short life.

In an email to the staff at Apple, new CEO Tim Cook broke the news saying, “Team, I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today. Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.” Cook closed with, “No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.”

Jobs, leaves behind his wife, Laurene, and four children.

Like no one else, Jobs truly changed not only the computer industry, but so much about how we communicate, entertain ourselves, and store and share information. Not only was Jobs responsible for the complete turn around for Apple, after he was thrown out by the board and then returned to the helm in 1996, but his brilliance and innovations have completely revolutionized the music, cell phone and portable electronics industries.

“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve,” read a statement from the Apple board of directors today.

Perhaps the best lesson for corporate executives which Steve has left them it to remember to focus on quality and innovation above all. Build solid quality products which enrich the users experience and the bottom line will take care if itself.

For the rest of us, perhaps the best lesson we are left with is to live with passion in you work and your life, and never settle for mediocrity.

Thank you, Steve Jobs, for an amazing legacy and a world of wonder.
