In the wake of the flooding in the areas of Minnesota near Duluth, Minneapolis-based Target Corporation announced that it has donated $15,000 in monetary support and product to assist with the Duluth flood relief efforts.
The financial support came in the form of a $10,000 cash donation to the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross which was leading the response efforts in the area. The other $5,000 donated by Target came in the form of gift cards will be given to local nonprofit organizations which can be used by for essentials such as water and food.
“When disaster strikes, Target listens and acts quickly to help support the needs of our communities,” said Gregg Steinhafel, Chairman, President and CEO, Target. “Our thoughts are with the residents of Duluth and we hope our donation will aid in the community’s recovery.”
According to the company, Target has given half a million dollars this year to the American Red Cross. The donations are part of an Annual Disaster Giving Program. ‘Putting their money where their mouth is’ with their ongoing commitment to corporate responsibility, the company has given back to communities to the tune of 5% of its income since 1946. Currently, this giving through community grants and programs equates to more than $3 million a week.
