Hope Solo Makes Save to help Team USA Women win over Brazil and move on to semi-Finals of FIFA World Cup

In dramatic fashion the U. S. Women’s soccer team pulled off a huge win over Brazil in the FIFA World Cup Soccer championship today. With the win under their belts, team USA now moved on to the final four in the semi-finals of the women’s world cup.

The U.S. women took an early 1-0 lead in the match, but the ladies from Brazil came back to tie up the match on a controversial penalty kick. After making a save, U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo was called for moving off of the line before the shot (which is very much in doubt as a legitimate penalty) and gave Brazil another kick which went through.

With the U.S. team down to only 10 players, Brazil scored again to move to 2-1 over the united states. During the second minute of three in extended play, team USA scored a dramatic goal off of a header by Abby Wambach to tie up the game 2-2.

It all came down to a tie-breaker shoot-out to determine the winner. Perhaps most fitting, it was Hope Solo who saved one of the 6 shots from the Brazilians, and then Ali Krieger who completed the 6th shot out of 6 shots made by the U.S. team to with the match with a tie-breaker at 6 to 5.

Now the women’s team USA soccer team is just one game away from playing in the final match in the FIFA women’s world cup soccer championship in Germany.

Today’s game will be re-aired on ESPN 2 at midnight eastern tonight for those who want to see it again.
