For the first time ever, the 2013 Motor Trend Car of the Year does not have a gasoline powered engine. This week, Motor Trend announced that its Car of the Year for 2013 is the all-electric Tesla Model S. The award comes as good news to the ground-breaking company which has struggled to prove itself in the market.
Unlike other electrics and hybrids on the market, the Tesla has focused on providing consumers with the same speed, acceleration, comfort and style they are used to, but without an internal combustion engine. While the Tesla Model S is not cheap, starting at just over $58,000, it is in line with other stylish luxury sport sedans in its class.
According to reports, the Tesla Model S boasts a light body, advanced design, a roomy cabin, and plenty of load capacity. Motor Trend indicates that the sporty electric vehicle “drives like a sports car and sashays like a supermodel working a Paris catwalk.”
In addition to its powerful sporty nature, with acceleration from 0-60 in about 4 seconds, the Tesla Model S also has the highest range of an electric car at about 265 miles. That’s much more than a typical daily commute.
