With the start of the New Year will come and end to multi-million dollar sponsorships for several athletes, at least from Procter & Gamble’s Gillette brand. As part of their plan to end its Gillette Champions marketing campaign, the company has opted not to renew contracts with Tiger Woods and several others.
While Woods has lost some sponsors in the wake of his divorce, from wife Elin Nordegren, and the scandal surrounding it, many other sponsors have continued to stand by Tiger to the tune of just over $90 million when combined with his earnings on the course for this year. Not bad for a player who lost his number one ranking this year.
While Woods has struggled this year on the course, CBS golf announcer Jim Nantz is among many who are not ready to write Woods off just yet. According to Nantz, “There’s no way you can sit here and write off Tiger Woods and say he’ll never be back again… When 2011 rolls around, I think Tiger will be ready to come back and put 2010 completely behind him.”
