Despite the blizzard which created massive chaos, caused thousands of flight cancellations, and dumped a lot of snow on the Big Apple, the traditional New Years Eve celebration in Times Square went off without a hitch. On schedule the world famous ball drop ushered in 2011 as thousands celebrated in the streets below.
In the days leading up to the celebration there had been a lot of negative press regarding, what appeared to some, as the cities slow response to the disaster. A lot of the press was focused on some amateur video of a snow plow demolishing a parked car as it attempted to clear the streets. There was a lot of public outrage blasted towards the NYC mayor’s office during the week. In the end, the streets were cleared and the city got back to normal and enjoyed good weather while ringing in the New Year.
As always, the night brought out all of the networks and their familiar hosts like Carson Daly, Ryan Seacrest, and Anderson Cooper. The night would not have been complete for many of course without Dick Clark who after recovering from a stroke several years ago has made his way back to host the celebration along with support from Seacrest and others.
