As day 2 of the 2011 British Open is underway, Tom Watson, 61 year-old veteran of the PGA and 5 British Open wins, hits a hole-in-one at the 6th hole at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England.

When speaking with reporters, Watson called the shot “a slam dunk.” Watson went on to say, “If it missed the flag it would’ve been 30 feet by. But it was lucky. They’re all lucky when they go in.”

This was the 15th ace for Watson during his PGA career, and his second at a championship. The shot helped Watson move to 2 under in the tournament keeping him close on the leader board, but 3 three-puts later in the day had a disappointed Watson finish the day at 70 and plus 2 in the tournament. The score was good enough for Watson to make the cut and move on to day 3 tomorrow.

Watson had used a 4 –iron to make the shot on the 167 yard par-3 hole. Not alone in his glory today as Tom Watson joined American player Dustin Johnson who got a hole-in-one on the 159-yard par 3 on the 16th hole on Thursday.
