Video of Woolly Mammoth appears to show a living Mammoth in Siberia

Watch latest internet video of an apparent live woolly mammoth in Siberia:

Circulating the internet on sites like youtube and news blogs, the video seen below appears to capture a live Woolly Mammoth walking across a river in Siberia.

An early precursor to modern day elephants, the Woolly Mammoth is believed to have gone extinct over a thousand years ago. Over the years, Mammoths have been uncovered in very good states of preservation in the cold permafrost climates in areas of North America and Siberia and other parts of Russia.

The new video which was posted by The Sun, captured a large hairy creature walking across a river in Siberia. The video quality is poor leading to a lot of speculation about the authenticity of the images. The size and walk of the creature, plus the very heavy coat appears consistent with that of a Woolly Mammoth. As for the trunk and tusks, the image is very blurry.

The Sun reported that the video was captured by a government engineer who was conducting a survey for a new road last summer. The exact area of the sighting was in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug region of Siberia.

In addition to the poor quality of the video, other questions surround the validity of the sighting. The greatest of these perhaps is how a living Woolly Mammoth, and his predecessors, could have gone for centuries without being noticed.
