Using time lapse video 2 comets, C/2012 F6 “Lemmon” and C/2011 L4 “PanSTARRS”, were captured in stunning beauty streaming their way across the sky in the Southern Hemisphere. The comet video shown below is just one of a number of amazing videos of the night sky available to watch at a web site called terrastro.com.
This video of Comets Lemmon and PanSTARRS, was recorded on February 16th, 2013. According to the creator of this comet video, Alex Cherney, “the video shows about 5 hours of comet Lemmon and an hour of comet PanSTARRS before the astronomical twilight.”
For those hoping to catch a glimpse of a comet with their own eyes, comet PanSTARRS is expected to eventually make its way across the night sky and eventually become visible to us in the Northern Hemisphere as well.
According to NASA, comet PanSTARRS should be visible, even with the naked eye, in the Northern Hemisphere looking to the west after sunset from March 12th 2013 to March 24th 2013.
If you were ever considering buying a telescope or a good pair of astronomical binoculars – viewing these comets might be a good reason to make the purchase.
