Jackson died while under the care of Murray, who was acting as Michael’s personal physician. According to reports, Murray had been giving Jackson regular doses of the drug propofol as a method of putting the pop star to sleep.
Propofol, however is a very powerful sedative, used a general anesthesia for surgery patients in hospital settings. Its use as a sleep sedative has put Murray under fire and lead to the trial.
Dr. Murray himself admits that the drug is not a proper sleep aid and that, in fact, he was trying to ‘ween’ Jackson off of the drug at the time of his death. According to the defense, Murray had stepped down the dosage, but he claims that it was the ‘king of pop’ himself who self-induced the fatal dose of propofol.
At the time of his death, Jackson was preparing for what was to be a come-back tour after several years out of the spotlight. Since his death Michael Jackson’s estate, including his children and family members have made millions from the release of a film which chronicled he last days while he prepared for the tour, as well as the release of some songs which Jackson was developing.
