With qualifying washed out Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman and Carl Edwards, earned the top three spots for the start with the best runs in practice – with the pole position going to Busch.
This year’s Sprint Cup format uses an elimination method for the expanded 16-driver field, with four drivers to be knocked out of contention every three races. A victory is any race earns an automatic advancement into the next round.
