Which cars and trucks are part of the Toyota Recall?
A defective crankshaft pulley is the cause of recall on the 2004and 2005 Toyota Highlander, Toyota Sienna, Toyota Solara, and the 2006 Lexus RX 400H. Also included in the overall recall, starting in January, are the 2004 Toyota Avalon, the 2004 and 2005 Lexus ES 330 and RX330, as well as the 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
In all, the Toyota recall encompasses a total of over 420,000 vehicles the company said in a statement today. The Toyota recall does not include any 4 cylinder models.
According to the company, “There is a possibility that the outer ring of the crankshaft pulley may become misaligned with the inner ring, causing noise and/or illumination of the discharge warning light,” said Toyota.. “If this condition is not corrected, the belt for the power steering pump may become detached from the pulley and the driver may notice a sudden increase in steering effort.”
While there have been no reported incidents related to the recall so far, Toyota went on to say that “if an abnormal noise is heard coming from the engine compartment, the owner is asked to make an appointment with any Toyota or Lexus dealer to have the vehicle inspected for this condition.”
