138th Kentucky Derby - Top Favorites for a Win Set to Run TodayIn what many are calling Cinco de Derby, because Cinco de Mayo this year coincides with the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, several horses are standouts poised for possible victory this afternoon.

Among the top horses favored to win the 2012 Kentucky Derby is Bodemeister, named for the seven year old son of top trainer Bob Baffert. This morning the makers had Bodemeister at 4-1 odds to win versus the other 19 horses in the field today.

Another top favorite among the odd makers in the Derby today is Gemologist. The horse has recently gone undefeated in five races, but is not expected to finish higher than third according to estimates. Trainer Todd Pletcher, who trained the 2010 Kentucky Derby winner has been getting Gemologist ready in Florida before brining the horse in on Tuesday.

Some other horses to being talked about for the race today are Union Rags and Take Charge Indy. Indy will be ridden by jockey Calvin Borel who has won the big race three times. Also of interest today is Hansen known as much for is fast sprinting speed as well as his nearly white coat.
