A warning has been issued by Nintendo which warns parents that they should not allow children under the age of 6 to play with the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming system.

In children under this age, the eyes are still forming and it is feared that the gaming system, which allows users to play games in a 3-dimensional view without the need for special glasses, may damage their eyes.

The device, which is expected to be released in the U.S. in the spring, has the ability to be used in a non-3D mode. In his statement to the press, Nintendo of America spokesman Charlie Scibetta warned that parents should use the built in parental controls to restrict access to the 3D mode of the system for the younger children.
