Through an agreement signed today, Air China will become the first air carrier in China to receive the new 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft being produced by Boeing. The flag carrier of the People’s Republic of China placed will be scheduled for delivery of 5 of the new aircraft once final government approval is granted.

“Air China has been operating 747s since the 1980s,” said He Li, vice president of Air China. “The new, high capacity Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental will deliver exceptional economics and a great flying experience to our customers.” 

The recently redesigned and updated version of the legendary 747 will be used to help the carrier expand their service and will be able to carry as many as 467 passengers with three different class cabins.

Boeing has redesigned one of the world’s most recognizable aircraft to compete with the A-380 from Airbus. Upgrades include advanced avionics, more ergonomic interior space, and enhanced engines which are quieter and much more fuel efficient.
