Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have Separated

Earlier today, the LA Times reported that former California Governor, Actor and body-builder Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have separated only weeks after he ended his term as governor.

Accroding to the Los Angeles Times report, Shriver had moved out of the couple’s Brentwood mansion. The couple had reported led almost entirely separate lives for several weeks leading up to the split.

Shriver, who’s mother Eunice Kennedy Shriver was the sister of John F Kennedy, has been married to Schwarzenegger for the last 25 years. Her father Sargent Shriver made a failed bid for the vice presidency in 1972.

The couple was politically split over the 2008 election when Schwarzenegger came out in support of John McCain, while his wife, like her family, was backing Barack Obama.

Reportedly, Schwarzenegger will be trying to get back in front of the file camera now that he has left public office. Most recently the govenator had been absent from the recent Terminator films for which he had become famous as he saw it as a conflict of interest with his political post. A new Terminator film is reported in the works.

The exact reason for the split up is not clear. The couple said in a statement was that “after a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion and prayer we came to this decision together”. There have been no formal talks about divorce but they are separating, and remain committed to their children.
