Auburn Takes BCS Title

In a nail biter of a finish, Auburn University came back in the final two minutes of the game Monday night to win by a field goal.  Auburn faced off against the University of Oregon as the two teams battled to decide the winner of the BCS National Championship in NCAA college football.

Just before half time, the Oregon Ducks has the opportunity to take the 16-11 lead away from the Auburn Tigers. A strong goal line stance, by Auburn, on fourth down inside the 2 yard line, sent the Ducks to the locker room without an additional score.

On average the front line of the Tigers’ defense outweighed that of the Ducks by about 45 pounds per man. Despite the difference up front, and the benefit of Auburn’s Heisman winner, Oregon was able to keep the game close.

After a second half with nothing more that a field goal allowed to Auburn, the Ducks marched down the field on a drive the ended with a touchdown and a badly needed two point conversion. With the game tied at 19-19, Cam Newton had just under two minutes to try to lead his team to victory.

On the second play after the final kickoff, Auburn running back Michael Dyer was tackled by an Oregon defender, but unknown to the Oregon defense and Dyer himself, his knee never touched as he rolled across the top of the tackler. With no whistles blown, and at the urging of the sidelines he took off running and extended the play to a 37 yard gain. Deep in Duck territory, Auburn continued the drive and eventually ran the clock down to 2 seconds before kicking the game winning field goal.
