Candy Bars Recalled for Lead Poisoning

Nuclear Sludge bars recalled

Nuclear Sludge bars recalled

Last week the FDA announced a recall for Nuclear Sludge chew bars manufactured since 2007. The bars are produced by Candy Dynamics under the brand Toxic Waste. Testing of the bars indicated that the lead content was nearly two and a half times the legal limit. The FDA allows for levels up to 0.1 parts per million, and the testing for the chew bars in the recall found levels of 0.24 parts per million.

According to the company, production of all flavors of the Nuclear Sludge bars, which were being manufactured in Pakistan, has been discontinued. There have, as of yet, been no reports of illness from the bars.

However, lead poisoning can build up over time before symptoms may appear. The results of the poisoning can include brain damage seizures, retardation of growth or mental capability, and even death.
