As the case moved on yesterday, it was hard to imagine how a mother whose child was missing, and believed to have been kidnapped by her, would deliberately make up massive lies to the police about where she worked, and where she and friends lived – and even make up fictitious people.

For about an hour the jury listened to the first interrogation of Casey early in the investigation, just days after her mother had reported Caylee missing. Casey took detectives to Universal Studios where she told them she was employed. After leading them through the park, looking for her office, she finally admitted that she did not work there. At that time, the three Orange County Sheriff’s detectives had a recorded conversation with Casey in a conference room inside the theme park.

Jurors listened to the recording of the conversation as detectives aggressively tried to get Casey to explain why she would lie to them and waste time when they were there to help her find her daughter. She had no good explanation, but just admitted that she had told multiple lies to them.

During the interview, one officer gave Casey an opportunity to explain what happened to her daughter, citing other examples of cases he has worked, including accidental drowning. Given that drowning is currently her lawyer’s defense, if that had been the truth, then would have been a good opportunity to come clean.
