Casey Anthony Trial Verdict Results in Caylee's Law Proposal

In the wake of the Casey Anthony trial “Not Guilty” verdict, a woman from Oklahoma, Michelle Crowder, has started an online petition for a new law making it a felony to not report a child missing. The proposal, known as Caylee’s Law, is receiving a lot of attention from internet users who have been following the trial.

The website Change.Org has posted the petition to put into effect making it a felony for a parent, legal guardian, or caretaker to not notify law enforcement of the disappearance of a child within 24 hours, so proper steps can be taken to find that child before it’s too late.

Also the proposed law would make it a felony for a parent, legal guardian, or caretaker to not notify law enforcement of the death of their child, accidental or otherwise, within 1 hour of said death being discovered.

Many feel that had a felony law been in place prior to this event, while Casey Anthony would have been found not guilty of murder, she would have been found guilty of the proposed felony charges and not released six days after the jury’s verdict. Said one online posting, “We cannot change what has happened in the past but we do have the ability collectively to prevent it reoccuring in the future.”
