Celebrate Earth Day and Earth Month by Taking the Energy Star PledgeIn an announcement this week, in celebration of Earth Day and Earth Month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) invites the public to to join the agency in changing the world with ENERGY STAR, and take the Energy Star pledge.

According to the EPA, as a country America is currently on the path to save more than $800 million in energy costs. Additionally, in what is good news for the environment, these energy saving measures are predicted to prevent more than 14 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions.

In their announcement, the EPA passed on praise to some of the major corporations whose efforts to reduce energy waste, and promote awareness, have been exceptional. Among these groups are Georgia Power Company, Girl Scouts of the USA, Samsung Electronics, Nissan North America, and Ameren Illinois.

For those who want to get involved, the EPA invites you to take the ENERGY STAR Pledge, as well as invite others to join. You can take the pledge by going online to: http://energystar.gov/pledgedrivers.

On the web site, you can take the pledge page and make your next commitment to an energy-saving action. In addition the web site provides a wealth of information on everything from lighting, electronics, appliances, heating, cooling and more to help you save energy and money. Included are special offers on ENERGY STAR products available in your area.

Finally, by visiting the Energy Star Pledge site you can find out about ENERGY STARs Across America. This is a campaign of hundreds of ENERGY STAR events are happening across the country from now until late in the Fall. The interactive map of events will help you find an event near you.

In an effort to engage America’s youth in the fight to control climate change by reducing our energy consumption, PTO Today and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America have brought in the characters from the new movie EPIC (coming in May) to help young people learn about saving energy. The ENERGY STAR web site includes downloadable, free, fun-filled, educational materials and shows how to start saving energy right away.
