Charles Manson 12th and Final Parole Request Denied

Charles Manson 12th and Final Parole Request Denied On Wednesday, Charles Manson now age 77 and in prison for being the mastermind behind the highly publicized and gruesome slaying of then pregnant actress Sharon Tate and eight others, was denied parole for the 12th and likely his final time according to officials. Manson’s next opportunity for a hearing is in 15 years making him 92 at that time

Although Manson was not present at the hearing, the parole of Manson was denied on Wednesday by the California parole panel who said that they, “could find nothing good as far as suitability” for Manson to be paroled. Manson had originally been issued a death sentence in 1969, but that was later changed to a life sentence when California lawmakers overturned the state’s death penalty a few years later.

It was Manson’s followers, referred to as his family, who killed Tate and the others in what was one of the most horrific murder cases of its time. According to reports, the group tried to disguise themselves as African Americans in an effort to, incite an apocalyptic race war between whites and blacks during the country’s massive social unrest, according to prosecutors at the time.

Several factors likely came into play in the board’s decision to deny the parole. According to Commissioner John Peck, Manson has run up 108 serious disciplinary violations during his time in prison, has shown no remorse for his crimes, and has not taken part in any self-help programs.

Manson’s statement to a psychologist in a prison interview on November 2, 2011, likely did not help his parole case either. In the interview Manson was quoted saying, “I am special. I am not like the average inmate. I have put five people in the grave. I’ve been in prison most of my life. I’m a very dangerous man.”
