Couple Shows How to Convert Your Car to Electric Vehicle with Easy-to-Follow Guide – saves money over rising gas pricesWith gas prices anticipated to average over $5.00 per gallon this summer, consumers everywhere are seeking ways to save gas, find cheap gas, and even find an alternative to gas vehicles. One popular method for reducing costs at the gas pump is to buy and electric vehicle, or a less expensive alternative of converting your current car into an electric vehicle.

One such couple, Les and Jane Oke, have not only converted their vehicle into an electric car, they have actually taken their knowledge, learned over the years and released it to the public in the form of a how-to manual.

According to their web site, the couple has been living off-the-grid using solar, wind and other clean energy for years. With gas prices rising, they applied their knowledge of battery storage to their car, and converted it to electric. Now the couple claims to be able to show virtually anyone how to convert their car into an electric vehicle relative inexpensively and without much technical know-how.

With the conversion complete, says the couple, you could actually drive by gas station and never need them again. Their experiments and design improvements eventually led them to a design with improvements to increase the speed and cruising range of the electric conversion.

If this all seems a bit far fetched, consider that a number of prominent celebrities, including Tom Hanks, have posted videos to YouTube showcasing how they have also used such techniques to convert a standard model Scion car into an electric car with a range of over 100 mile on a single charge. The video of Hanks appears on the Oke’s web site seen here.

According to the Okes, is is relatively easy and inexpensive to convert “regular production vehicles from Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, etc., that travel at least 55 MPH and still have all the creature comforts you would expect.”
