In yet another literal shake up for the U.S. this year, another series of earthquakes rocked the West coast and the Southwest. In California a 3.9 earthquake hit in San Francisco, while in Texas, a 4.8 quake woke up San Antonio residents at 7:24 AM local time.

The California earthquake came almost exactly 22 years after the deadly Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. That quake was captured on television as it occurred during the playing of the World Series that year.

Striking at 2:31 PM, with an epicenter about 2 miles southeast of Berkley California, the San Francisco quake coincidentally hit just hours after millions of residents took part in an annual earthquake preparedness drill known as the 2011 Great California ShakeOut.

Earlier in the day, San Antonio set a new record for the magnitude of an earthquake in the area. The previous record was set by a 4.3 magnitude earthquake back in 1993. The latest quake, at magnitude 4.8, was centered about 47 miles southwest of San Antonio.
