Enter Global Spaceflight Contest – Organization wants to send Civilians like You into Space

Enter Global Spaceflight Contest - Organization wants to send Civilians like You into SpaceAre you a dreamer? A dare devil? An explorer? Have you ever dreamed of slipping into an astronaut suit, buckling up, listening to mission control and hearing ‘Blast off’ to which your entire body shakes as you explode into the outer realm of the earth where few have ever been?

This week, Spaceship Earth Grants (SEG) launches a new global campaign for all space enthusiasts, extreme sports lovers and anyone looking to make an impact on the world in a unique way. With its mission of enabling as many people as possible to have the spaceflight experience, the SEG crew is proud to launch its first contest to crowdfund an open number of spaceflight awards.

Currently, the odds of having been to space are approximately one in 12,928,440. However, in line with our mission to send as many people to space as possible, the SEG panel of judges will select at least one in 50,000 people to experience space.

The team at SEG is comprised of dozens of space industry and community leaders including:

– Bill Nye the Science Guy(tm), CEO of The Planetary Society
– Leland Melvin, former NASA Astronaut and President of SEG
– Ron Garan, former NASA Astronaut and Vice President of SEG
– Maraia Hoffman, Astrophysicist, Vice President of SEG and CEO of Star Harbor Space Training Academy
– Frank White, author of “The Overview Effect” and Vice President of SEG

“Space is thrilling; however, this is not just about creating thrill rides for people. There are aspects of spaceflight that can generate shifts in perspective to positively and profoundly influence the way people behave and think about our world,” said former NASA Astronaut Leland Melvin, President of Spaceship Earth Grants. “We want to facilitate that positive impact by awarding space travel to enthusiastic individuals who will be influential ambassadors by sharing their new insights with others in a compelling and inspiring way.”
