Director Asghar Farhadi Accepts Golden Bear Award

At the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday, for the first time ever, and Iranian film won the award for best picture. The film which took home the “Golden Bear” was titled “Nader and Simin: A Separation”.

The film is a drama about a struggling marriage and the legal fight which ensues. More than the marriage, the film highlights the differences between the more affluent middle class in modern day Iran, and the typically poorer and more traditional Iranians. The recent political unrest in the country has come to a head with the middle class leaning more towards a westernized way of life, and the traditionalists who are more driven by religion and tradition.

In addition to best picture, the film also won awards for best actor and actress at the ceremony. The film was directed by Asghar Farhadi whose daughter, Sarina Farhadi also starred in the film.
