Five Tips to Make Your Halloween Safe offered by Federal Government Web Site for Kids

In preparation for a safe and fun Halloween this year, Kids.gov, part of USA.gov and the U.S. government’s official web portal for kids has listed 5 important tips for trick-or-treating. In addition to the top Halloween safety tips, the Kids.gov web site is also a great resource for educational games, educational information and videos for kids of all ages, as well as a great educational resource for parents and teachers.

The Halloween safety tips below are related to costumes, masks and face paints, plus some important tips on candy safety. Also, review our earlier articles for safe and free pumpkin carving templates, tips and ideas. According to the web site the top five Halloween safety tips for trick-or-treat are:

1. When you’re making your costume, make sure you can see. Masks can make it hard to see, so try face paint instead. And make sure that other people can see you in your costume. Wear light colors and ask your parents to put reflective tape on your costume so cars can see you.

2. Does your costume have a long cape or are you wearing a long dress? Make sure it won’t make you trip and fall. You don’t want to spill all the candy you collected!

3. Plot out a trick or treat map with your mom or dad. Figure out which houses you want to go to and how long you think you’ll be gone. If Mom and Dad aren’t going with you, make sure you carry the map so you don’t get lost.

4. Let your mom and dad look at your candy before you eat any of it. Throw out any candy that has an open or damaged wrapper.
