Flu Outbreak in U.K. Worsens

In what has been a very serious flu outbreak in the U.K., with a number of deaths including children, health officials released a warning indicating that type B influenza has reached “substantial proportions” in the city of London.

In an attempt to continue to combat the illness the government is releasing over 12 million vaccines which had been left over from the swine flu outbreak last year. This is in addition to the vaccines released earlier this year which were engineered to combat three strains of the flu. Unfortunately for many, if they were not able to get this year’s vaccine, the old vaccine will do nothing against the type B virus.

The latest reports from the health department indicate that the type B virus has now surpassed the swine variant in this year’s outbreak in the southern and central parts of the country but the swine remains a major concern nationwide.
