Based on a popular book, Hunger Games look poised to have a run of financial success akin to many other book-to-movie hits like the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises. Including the international earnings outside of the U.S. and Canadian markets, the total take for the opening weekend of the film was a reported $214 million. The film is a huge success for Lions Gate Entertainment known for some smaller but successful cult classic films like the “Saw” franchise and Tyler Perry’s series of comedies. For the vast majority, critics which have written a Hunger Games review have been very positive.
The film “Hunger Games” is a based first book of a three book trilogy which was a best-selling series author Suzanne Collins. In the film, Jennifer Lawrence plays the lead role of Katniss Everdeen. In the post-apocalyptic setting, the teen finds herself in the midst of a televised fight to the death which is a regular part of her society.
For fans anxious to continue the cinematic journey, the sequel to “Hunger Games”, reportedly named “Catching Fire” is scheduled for release in November 2013.
