Liger Cubs in China being Mothered by a Dog

A wildlife reserve in China is the home to two of the most recent additions to the Liger population. If you’re wondering what a liger is, it is half Tiger and half Lion.

The two cubs, one male and one female are two of only 20 in existence according to the Chinese. The cubs, fathered by a Lion and given birth to by a mother Tiger, are tow of four which were born the 13th of this month. Unfortunately, the other two died not long after birth.

According to the animals’ keeper, the two who died were not healthy at the time of delivery. The mother has since abandoned the two remaining cubs, but a dog has stepped in to fill the role and is currently nursing the pair.

The dog, which also lives at the zoo recently gave birth to a litter of pups and is taking care of the cubs as well now.
