Matthew Perry, former star of “Friends”, numerous films and most recently a new hit show “Mr. Sunshine” has announced that he will be taking some time off to go back into rehab.
In an interview with TMZ, Perry said, “I’m making plans to go away for a month to focus on my sobriety and to continue my life in recovery.” The lighthearted Perry even joked saying, “Please enjoy making fun of me on the world wide web.”
The actor has received a lot of critical acclaim for his work in front of the camera, and is adored by fans, but his life off screen is less than funny. The 41 year old Perry will be making what is believed to be his third trip into rehab since his first trip in 1997.
In an interview with People magazine after his second stint in rehab in 2001, he admitted to taking large amounts of vicodin and vodka every day. Reportedly however, Perry has not fallen off the wagon again.
His return to rehab has reportedly not been triggered by a relapse of abuse. Instead the actor is being proactive and giving himself time to focus on his sobriety and keep himself clean. We wish him well.
