Microsoft Word Vulnerable to Hackers

Microsoft has been working to address a security hole in its popular word processing program, Microsoft Word. The hole creates vulnerability in the software which hackers can use to plant malicious software into a users computer.

As is typical in such attacks, the user can become infected by opening an email sent from a hacker. The user has only to preview an email message in their outlook and the RTF (rich text format) document will unleash its malware.

According to Microsoft, the RTF file first attacks the users’ computer and, once the computer is compromised, the hack will download and run a Trojan horse onto the computer.

The hole has been patched for most all versions of Word except for Word 2004. Information regarding the patch and the vulnerability can be found at Mircosoft’s web site and is listed under the MS10-087 security bulletin.
