Facebook Launches New Communications Plugin

The Discovery Communications, best known for the Discovery Channel, announced that they have launched Facebook’s updated Comments plugin on the video clip pages across their broadcast networks. This includes the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Science Channel, Investigation Discovery, Military Channel, and Discovery Health, as well as more broadly across HowStuffWorks.com.

The new plugin allow users, who are signed in to Facebook, to comment and share content while on Discovery’s websites. This is a new application being rolled out to a select few partners at this time.

“With more than 26 million Facebook fans and a passionate and engaged social media community, Discovery is proud to be chosen to launch this Comments plugin,” said Kelly Day, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Discovery’s Digital Media and Commerce division. “Our fans grow by about 500,000 each week on Facebook, so we know that our real-world programs and characters are resonating in this environment. We look forward to the benefits this additional flexibility affords our viewers to comment, share and like our content and talent.”

With a global reach across 170 countries and more than 1.5 billion subscribers, Discovery is a perfect candidate for a launch of this type of media. Users can now share their comments and views about a show or content without ever leaving the Discovery web site.
