Online NASA TV Carries Live Broadcast: Watch the Next Spacewalk for ISS Astronauts Making repairs to International Space Station on Christmas EveAfter a successful five and a half hour spacewalk on Saturday by International Space Station astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Mike Hopkins, NASA has scheduled another dangerous spacewalk outside the ISS for Tuesday (Dec 24, 2013) morning. This next spacewalk will also be carried by live video stream online from NASA TV.

Saturday’s spacewalk successfully removed a faulty ammonia pump on the ISS. Now the astronauts will tempt fate once more as they don their aging space suits to complete the job and install a new unit for the Space Station.

Earlier issues with a water leak in the space suits, during a July spacewalk by European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano, appear to have been resolved. Although one astronaut did complain that his feet were very cold after the lengthy spacewalk on Saturday.

Taking an extra day before the next spacewalk gives the ISS crew time to resize a spare spacesuit on the space station for use by Mastracchio. During repressurization of the station’s airlock following the spacewalk, a spacesuit configuration issue put the suit Mastracchio was wearing in question for the next excursion — specifically whether water entered into the suit’s sublimator inside the airlock.

For this next spacewalk on Christmas Eve, NASA is going to have Mastracchio use a backup suit. In addition to the television coverage from NASA TV, internet viewers can watch the spacewalk on ISS live using the free online video stream from NASA TV.

NASA Television coverage of Tuesday’s spacewalk will begin at 6:15 a.m. EST. The spacewalk scheduled to begin at 7:10 a.m.
