Paranormal Activity 3: Reviews are Strong and Number 1 in Box Office Revenue at $54 Million

The third installment of the ‘Paranormal Activity’ film franchise has been gaining good reviews from critics, and this week, also earned the top spot in box office revenue taking home $54 million for the week.

According to movie review site rottontomatoes.com, reviews from fans have been overwhelmingly positive with 74% recommending the film. Paranormal 3 also won similar numbers with film critics, 73% of whom gave the film a good review.

Like its predecessors, the third film in the series is shot mostly from handheld cameras, using a style which first proved a surprise winner with audiences in the ‘Blair Witch Project’ films.

Rounding out the top 5 movies in theaters last week was ‘Real Steel’ at number 2 with $11.3 million, ‘Footloose’ remake at #3 and $10.9 million. The ‘Three Musketeers’ was fourth with a reported $8.8 million, and in fifth place with ticket sales of $4.9 million was George Clooney in ‘Ides of March.’
