Regis Philbin says Goodbye to “Live” with Final Farewell Show

Final show for Regis Philbin

Regis Philbin retires from "Live" with final show today November 18th.

After 28 years of morning show television, host Regis Philbin has made the decision to say farewell to his television audience on the ABC show “Live.” In a recent interview, Regis told Katie Couric, “I just thought this was probably a good time to go.”

Couric recently interviewed Regis for the upcoming story, “Regis Philbin: The Morning Maestro.”

At the age of 80, a surprise to many of his fans, Regis Philbin has spent the last 50 years in front of television viewers. In addition to his morning show audiences, Philbin also grew in popularity with evening viewers as the host of the popular “Who wants to be a millionaire” game show.

There had been some speculation that Regis was stepping down over recent contract negotiations. According to the interview with Couric, there appears to be some credence to those rumors.

When asked if the negotiations played a role in his decision to leave “Live”, Philbin responded, “Well, that’s exactly right, otherwise maybe I might have changed my mind. But it wasn’t what I expected or I thought I deserved.”

Fans of Regis Philbin can read more about his life both on a off camera in his recently released memoir. A signing tour will accompany the release of Regis’s book.
