Ron Paul Announces Run for President in 2012

In an announcement today on ABC’s Good Morning America, Ron Paul made it official. Paul will run for President of the United States in 2012. “Time has come around to the point where the people are agreeing with much of what I’ve been saying for 30 years”, said Paul on the show. “So I think the time is right.”

This will be the third run at the Presidency for Ron Paul. The first attempt was back in 1988, and most recently in the 2008 election. The vast increase in the US debt along combined with the decline of the US dollar may give Paul an edge over some of his competition.

Economics have long been his key talking points while other candidates rely on more traditional topics. Budget and economic growth and stability will very likely be the top priority for voters in the fall of 2012.

Paul’s next big hurdle in the eyes of many will be winning the support of the GOP. While a CNN pole showed that Paul is a stronger contender to unseat President Obama than any other Republican candidate, his political views, especially on foreign policy, are not in line with many in the party.
