Second United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in NewarkReuters is now reporting that United Airlines flight 409 from Newark to Seattle made an emergency landing after making an air-return back to the Newark Liberty International Airport at 9:15 AM today. The United Airlines Boeing 757 aircraft reportedly landed safely, shortly after departure, reporting to air traffic control that there was smoke in the cockpit and the passenger cabin.

The FAA confirmed the incident which marks the second United flight in two days which returned to the Newark Airport. In Houston, another United hub, there was also an aircraft which reportedly returned to the airport citing mechanical issues.

The other emergency landing was on Saturday when United flight 96, also a Boeing 757, returned safely to Newark after experiencing engine problems in the left engine. According to reports, flight 96 returned safely to Newark around 8PM just two hours after departure from Newark to Berlin.
