Security Flaw in Windows and Internet Explorer

While there have so far been no reports of  attacks, Microsoft reported last week that there is a serious security flaw in the Windows operating system which affects Internet explorer and could lead to exploitation by hackers.

The flaw apparently leaves an opening for hackers to gain access to computers and/or steal user information including email as easily as creating a web page with some bogus links. Once the user clicks on the links, a malicious script can be run allowing the hacker to hijack the users system. It is estimated that over 900 million users may be at risk.

The company has released a patch for the hole, which can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. In the meantime, the company’s security team is working on a permanent fix to the issue. All Windows users are urged by Microsoft to download the patch.
