Newt Gingrich wins South Carolina Primary Election

After the third Republican Primary election results in South Carolina now being tallied, their appears to be a third winner among the 4 remaining candidates. With his win in the SC Primary, Newt Gingrich secures a place in the continued battle among Republican candidates in the race for the White House.

Rick Santorum won in Iowa, Mitt Romney won the race in New Hampshire, and now Newt Gingrich appears to have won in South Carolina. Of the remaining four, only Ron Paul who finished last in South Carolina very closely behind Santorum has yet to win a primary.

At the time of writing, Gingrich appeared the clear winner with 40% of the votes. Second place on the night belonged to Romney with 27%. Third place was a tightly contested battle between Santorum at 17% and Paul with 13%.

While many are currently speculating that Santorum may be a good fit for a Vice Presidential running mate with Gingrich, it is still a long way until November.

Next up for the republican candidates is the primary election in the state of Florida. In preparation for the election, the candidates will take part in their next televised debate on Sunday night January 22, 2012. The event will be broadcast live as it takes place in Tampa Florida.
