After more than 2 years without a winning performance, Tiger Woods is looking good at the Australian Open this week. Day two of the golf tournament gets underway in the ‘land down-under” on the Lakes Golf Course with $1.5 million in prize money.

According to rankings, Woods who once led the PGA tour and won the Australia Masters in 2009, now sits at 58 among the world’s best professional golfers.

Woods met with his former caddie, Steve Williams, earlier this week. Williams reportedly apologized to Tiger for some racial comments Williams made last week at an awards dinner.

Reuters reports that Woods is feeling confident in his ability to finish strong and get back to the top of the rankings now that he has fully recovered from injury.

In a comment making reference to an Olympic champion sprinter, Woods said, “If you’re Usain Bolt you don’t just go out and run in world record time, it takes time, it takes training.” “Finally I’m able to do (that) and that’s what’s so exciting about these tournaments coming up as well as going into next year, I finally feel like I’m able to do that,” Woods continued.

In his opening round yesterday, Woods finished an impressive 5 under par with a score of 67. Tiger had 5 birdies on the first nine holes played on the day.
