Tiger Woods Re-Injures Knee at TPC

In his first tournament since the Masters, Tiger Woods was forced to quit half way through the first round of The Players Championship (TPC) in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL near Jacksonville. Woods re-injured the same knee on which he has had four surgeries as well as his Achilles’ tendon, also on his left leg.

Tiger had taken a break from playing and practicing following the Masters tournament over a month ago. It was during the third round of the Masters that Woods first re-injured the knee and tendon on the left leg while hitting a difficult lie.

Doctors had given Tiger the go ahead to play the TPC this week, but during his first shot off of the first tee, Woods’ shot sailed far left and the knee problems began. By the end of the ninth hole on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Woods could no longer compete and withdrew.

Woods said, “I was just trying to draw that ball out there just a little bit, I pushed forward, and you know it just didn’t feel good. The knee acted up and then the Achilles’ followed after that and then the calf started cramping up. Everything started getting tight, so it’s just a whole chain reaction.”

Woods went on to say that he had felt fine during his warm up but that the situation got progressively worse as he continued to play. Tiger is not sure when he will be back to play again, saying that he will have to wait until he talks with his doctors and they have a chance to evaluate the injury further.
