Tiger Woods Starts New Season Well

To open the 2011 PGA Tour season, Tiger Woods finished his first round of the Farmers Insurance Open with a respectable 69. When asked how he felt about his play yesterday, Woods responded, “I was happy with the way I played.”

The first round score put Tiger five shots behind the leader, Sunghoon Kang of South Korea who finished the day with a 64. The second round is underway today at legendary Torrey Pines. The course, as always, presents many challenges with its narrow fairways and thick rough.

Several players share the space between Woods and the lead. John Daily and Phil Mickelson were among ten players at 67. Second place on the day is shared by Alex Prugh and Rickie Fowler who shot 65. Chris Kirk is only two back from the lead at 66, and Anthony Kim came in just one ahead of Tiger with a score of 68.
