Verizon Prepares Network for iPhone

Rumors about an eventual end to AT&T’s exclusivity with the Apple iPhone, and the start of availability of the popular device on the Verizon network have been circulating for some time. While AT&T officials admitted that the day would come eventually, they have always felt confident that it would be the difference in performance, on what they believe to be their superior AT&T network, which would keep their customers loyal.

According to reports, Verizon Wireless has been working to upgrade its network to handle the potential increased workload which would be created by iPhone users. The roll out of the new 4G network should, according to officials, take some of the burden off of the existing 3G network as Verizon customers upgrade their phones to take advantage of the faster speeds from 4G.

Users will eventually need to make a decision, as an announcement from Verizon appears eminent within the coming days. The decision will need to be based on functionality as well as performance however. The two companies use different technology in their networks. Verizon uses CDMA which will limit an iPhone user to searching the internet, or making a phone call. The two cannot be done at the same time. In contrast the AT&T GSM network supports simultaneous access to voice and data and is more compatible with networks overseas.
