Video: Tim Tebow Released as New England Patriots Cut to final Roster of 53

Video: Tim Tebow Released as New England Patriots Cut to final Roster of 53A number of media outlets, including ESPN and the USA Today are reporting that Tim Tebow has been released by the New England Patriots. The release comes as part of the final cuts prior to this week’s start of the NFL 2013 regular season.

What is next for Tebow, and what team might pick him up, are the questions circulating among sports analysts with the news of Tebow’s release. All NFL teams have to get to a final regular season roster of 53 players after typically starting the preseason and training camp with 90.

Since leading the Denver Broncos to the play-offs in spectacular fashion in 2011, Tebow has struggled to find a home in the NFL. While many analysts don’t see Tim Tebow as a franchise NFL quarterback, given the opportunity, he certainly got the job done in Denver.

Ironically, it was the New England Patriots which ended Tebow’s run of victories in Denver by beating them in the play-offs. With Ryan Mallett already in place as the backup to Tom Brady, it was unlikely that the team would keep Tebow on as a third quarterback.
