New Beetle: 2012 VW Beetle Unveiled today

At the New York Auto Show today, Volkswagen unveiled its all-new VW 2012 Beetle. After a lot of hype when the VW Beetle (Bug) was re-introduced in the late 1990’s, the company is hoping to get the public excited again, and back to the show rooms.

This is the third version of the very popular, and somewhat iconic, vehicle. The first version was introduced in Germany nearly 90 years ago. Looking for an answer to the Model-T’s success in the American market, the original Beetle was commissioned by Adolph Hitler himself.

In the 1960’s the Beetle gained enormous popularity in the U.S. as an affordable, low maintenance car that could easily put a car in every driveway. A testimony to their reliability, many of the vintage Bugs are still on the road.

With a reputation built on reliability, affordability, iconic status and a loyal following, Volkswagon is pushing to position itself strongly against the Japanese auto makers to become a dominant player in the American auto market.
