NASA announced on Saturday that the Mars Science Laboratory and the Curiosity Mars Rover are on schedule and in the final approach for entry, descent and landing on Mars. The Mars landing can be watched live online here thanks to the feed from NASA television.
With only hours to go and the countdown clock ticking down, the Mars landing is currently on schedule for the early hours of Monday morning (1:31 a.m. EDT Aug. 6).
NASA reported that, “Curiosity remains in good health with all systems operating as expected.” The agency said that the mission team had uplinked some minor corrections to the navigation system of the spacecraft.

On Saturday the spacecraft completed an onboard sequence of events which included the turning on of catalyst bed heaters which will prepare the eight Mars Lander Engines for use during the descent to the Red Planet. The spacecraft is currently closing in on Mars at a little more than 8,000 mph.
