Watch Video: Derek Jeter First New York Yankee to Hit 3000, Minka Kelly and Fans Give Standing Ovation in Yankee Stadium

Baseball history was made today as Derek Jeter became the first player ever from the New York Yankees to reach 3000 hits. Jeter reached the mark, in dramatic fashion during the third inning of the game, while hitting a home run into the left field seats at Yankee stadium.

In addition to his teammates on the New York Yankees bench, Jeter’s girlfriend of the last 2 years, Minka Kelly, was on hand as part of a standing ovation from the crowd during Saturday’s game against Tampa. Kelly, was in attendance, along with Jeter’s friends and family in a luxury box at the stadium for the historic moment.

When asked about trying to surpass the all-time record for hits, held by Pete Rose at 4,256, the 37 year-old Jeter said, “You never say never, but it’s not something that’s on my mind.”

Jeter’s 31 year-old girlfriend Kelly is an actress who is slated to star in a re-make of the Charlie’s Angels TV series on ABC.
